John Bielen

Best known as a track coach and counselor at Power Memorial Academy, John Gregory Bielen was as a teacher, mentor and friend whose legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.  To help celebrate his life, this pictorial shows a few of the stops John made during his brief time with us.  A student at All Hallows in the Bronx, his first Irish Christian Brothers assignment at Chicago's Leo High School, photo's of mementos, provided by his family, showing some of his many championship teams and athletes at Power, then we see John as principal at Bishop Hendricken High School in Rhode Island and beyond

We remember you John and are thankful you came our way.

Looking at this picture I notice my teammate at Manhattan College, Astin Gil. We started at Manhattan together and became instant buddies due to our relationship to Br Bielen. A small world indeed. I am amazed how Br Bielen affected 2 kids, one from Chicago, the other from NYC in a wonderful and positive way. Astin and I have become lifelong friends. It’s the Bielen Touch. - (John Lovett '69)
